The Guilford Library — Vote Yes!

May 13th, 2022

A little love for my town on this gorgeous Friday in May,  and if you live in Guilford, also a passionate plea for you to please vote!

The library expansion revote (Article 7) is May 24th.

Why am I voting YES?

As a writer and reader, I love free books. As a citizen, I love community.  As a mom, I love the many opportunities to introduce my kids to citizenship and community and books. (Story time! Flower-planting parties! Free summer camp! These are all library things!) As a volunteer for the Guilford Gazette, I appreciate the albeit tiny space the library now offers to meet, create, and collate the paper. The library is the central hub of my relationship with Guilford, a town I love and have now lived in for five years, and it offers all of these things.

Whether you have this same kind of relationship with our beloved little library or not, I would encourage you to vote in this upcoming election. The library is a priceless resource for our town and will only become more of one when renovated.

There is a virtual meeting this Monday May 16th to answer questions and discuss. (Also, directly from Cathi, our beloved librarian: The Guilford Free Library will host a ZOOM PARTY on Monday, May 16 at 6:30PM, to participate in the Public Information Meeting on the Library Reconsideration Vote. The Library will open at 6:15. Bring snacks to share. Unless there are more than 9 of you, we have enough chairs.)

Please, please vote on or before May 24th.

There is a vocal minority of people who have pushed for this revote, and they will definitely be showing up to the poll.

(And thank you Leslie Malouin for this super clear graphic!)
