Michael says I have too many hobbies. But I really only have one: trying to make this godforsaken life more tolerable by engaging my imagination whenever possible. From the outside this might look like a lot of different things — reading, drawing, pottery, cooking, crafting — but they are all the same thing, as far as I’m concerned: escaping into my right brain for as long as possible, as often as possible. I seek asylum there.
Last night I took a “living terrariums” workshop at WorkshopSF, this super cool space in the Western Addition of San Francisco where you can take all kinds of classes nearly every night of the week. With about 25 other asylum-seekers, including my close friend Tom Lee, we spent two hours piecing together succulent terrariums with chopsticks, charcoal chips and good old fashioned dirt. Does anything smell better than dirt? I think not.
Step two: try to keep living terrarium living. Stay tuned.
