Small Batch SundaySmall Batch Sunday at Acupuncture Kitchen

Sunday, August 11, 2013, 11am-3pm

2325 -3rd Street, Suite 4R-70, San Francisco, California  94107

I don’t have a lot of crutches left in my life, sadly, so making things has become my new drug. I craft and cook like other people do crack: compulsively, expensively, and, often, late at night by myself. As a result, I end up with a lot of “product” for my imaginary spice and skincare line, SimpleBasic. Normally, I give it away to friends who are forced to say things like, “Wow, thanks…. what do I do with Fire Cider Remedy, again?”

But this Sunday I will actually be selling some of my made-things at an event at Acupuncture Kitchen, in San Francisco, called Small Batch Sunday. With three of my good friends — Caylie See of Yum Yum Tonics, Kelsey Riley of Naya Organics, and Anna Fischer, the most talented potter I know — I’ll be selling a few things that I’ve recently made:

Jasmine or Lavender Linen Spritz

JasmineLinenSpritz

This is for spraying on your sheets, blankets, sofa or, if you’re elderchic, your afghan to keep such items smelling fresh and redolent of warm Sonoma summer days. In a base of alcohol and distilled water, it’s also antiseptic.

Small (2oz) glass bottle: $10
Large (4oz) glass bottle: $15

Stumptown Coffee + Paprika  Salt

Coffee-paprika saltHot smoked Spanish paprika, fresh-ground Stumptown coffee and sea salt right from the San Francisco Bay make this is a multi-culti steak rub that’s also great on potatoes and other starches.

4oz bottle with shaker top: $10

Chipotle-Lime Solar Salt

Chipotle-lime saltToasted lime zest, chipotle chili powder, large-flake solar sea salt. Has a smoky, citrusy thing going on. Great sprinkled on fresh cut melons, peaches, watermelon, cucumber and ripe summer tomatoes. Also perfect on fish.

4oz bottle with shaker top: $10

Sichuan-Sesame Salt

sichuan-sesame saltThis variation on Gomasio, a traditional Asian condiment made of salt and sesame seeds, includes fresh-ground sichuan pepper (serious kick!), sea salt, toasted sesame seeds and fresh-ground crushed red pepper flakes. This is a terrific condiment for just about anything that you want to subtly spice up, including fish, chicken, vegetables (especially greens!) and salads.

4oz bottle with shaker top: $10

Toasted Curry Blend

Curry blendNot very spicy at all, this medley of spices is heavy on the cumin and coriander, with big props to my favorite spice, fenugreek, backed up with cinnamon, clove, dried red chili pepper, black peppercorn and turmeric. It’s really yummy and great in soups, casseroles, baked sweets, chicken, tofu and seriously, just about anything else. Melt a little butter and stir some in, and you have a yummy topping to warm up leftovers.

4oz bottle with shaker top: $8

Ylang Ylang / Lavender Healing Salve

Healing SalveOlive oil infused for days with healing calendula, comfrey, chamomile, yarrow and goldenseal, then combined with beeswax, skin-soothing vitamin E oil and either ylang ylang and myrrh or lavender essential oil. Comes in a screw-top round tin so you can keep it in your medicine cabinet, purse, car, anywhere. Helps, soothe, heal and moisturizer troubled skin when you get a burn, bite, scratch or rash.

1oz tin with screw top: $7

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I’m a functional craftoholic, so please come enable me on Sunday! And if you’d like to get your paws on something but can’t make it to Acupuncture Kitchen on Sunday, I am working on setting up an Etsy store  and you can also email me and we’ll work something out! Because for you, I would even go to the post office.
