Outside Eye Consulting: Frequently Asked Questions

January 28th, 2014

What exactly do you do?

I’m a writer.

I know that, smart ass. But what kind of writer?

I mainly write marketing content for small businesses, entrepreneurs and tech companies. This means anything from web site copy to press releases to brochure copy to blog posts to guest articles to letters.

What the hell is “copy”?

Copy just means the text that goes on your web site, or in your brochure, or whatever.

So you can make me a web site?

I can write the words for you, and I can even upload them to your website, especially if your website is built on WordPress or another content management system. But to create a site from scratch, you will also need a designer and a web developer. Sometimes you can find one person who does both of these things. I know a lot of these brilliant sorts, and am happy to give you a recommendation if you email me.

Wait… you’re not a graphic designer?

No. I wish! Graphic designers are cool people! I know tons. If you need one, let me know. I’ll introduce you.

Why “Outside Eye Consulting”?

I just thought it sounded catchy, and I wanted a way to express what I do for small businesses: observe your marketing message from the standpoint of an outsider (like a customer) and make sure it all makes sense and isn’t too wordy or boring.

I bet it’s really great being a freelancer. Do you basically just do yoga all day and eat long leisurely lunches on the patio?

Ha. I never leave my house, take a break, or even put a bra on until at least 6pm. So no, I can’t go to lunch with you in the middle of the day. On the other hand, I never set an alarm, so life is good!

What does crafting have to do with anything?

That’s my number one outlet. Read lots about it here or follow me on Instagram for constant pictures of things I make.

What is your favorite TV show?

Game of Thrones.
